Trauma
Trauma Changes You — But So Can Healing
When you’ve been through something traumatic — whether it was one moment or years of instability — it can leave deep marks. You may feel constantly on edge, shut down, reactive, or disconnected from who you used to be. But those responses are not your fault. They’re signs that parts of you are still carrying what you’ve been through.
IFS therapy offers a way to gently connect with those parts — and begin healing, from the inside out.
Meeting the Parts That Protected You
In IFS, we understand that trauma creates internal fragmentation. Some parts of you hold the pain and fear of the experience, while others work overtime to keep that pain hidden. These protector parts might push people away, numb emotions, or demand perfection — all in an effort to keep you safe.
We begin by building trust with those protectors. They’re doing their best. Once they feel supported, they often allow us to access the parts that are still hurting — the ones that have been exiled.
From there, healing becomes possible — not through reliving trauma, but through gently witnessing and unburdening it.
When parts feel safe, your system begins to reorganize. The panic lessens. The shutdown softens. You begin to reconnect with your Self — that deep inner sense of calm, clarity, and compassion.
And from that place, life starts to feel more open again. Not perfect — but possible.
